2 cops on ganja, gun charges spend the night behind bars*

Trinidad Express / port of spain   TWO police officers who were arrested last week with four crocus bags filled with packages of marijuana and three illegal firearms spent last night in prison custody, after being denied bail upon their appearance in court yesterday. The officers—PCs Stephen Johnson and Toola Jack—appeared before Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court jointly charged with being in possession of the drugs for the purpose of trafficking and the three illegal firearms. Johnson faced an additional charge of possession of ten rounds of ammunition allegedly found by investigators at his Laventille home the day after his arrest. Upon their appearance before the magistrate, the officers, who were last attached to the Firearms Interdiction Unit, were not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably. They were arrested in South Oropouche last Tuesday by South Western Division officers after the marked police vehicle in which they were in was stopped and searched.
