The trinidad Guardian / West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Territorial Development Officer Kumar Rampat says that the five-camp Kiddy Cricket camp sponsored by Scotiabank has been a tremendous success. The camp ends today at 2pm at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva.

According to Rampat: “Scotiabank continues to play a major role in the development of West Indies cricket. At a time when funding is difficult all around, they have stayed the course with our cricket and many young players continue to benefit.

“The young players here from T&T have been attending the camp for the past five days and they have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”

Rampat who has done tremendous work with a number of young cricketers who have come out of the Scotiabank programme and went on to play for the West Indies added: “West Indies cricket can only improve if you have a good youth programme that is turning out quality players on a consistent basis. Scotiabank has gone a long way in realising this for West Indies cricket and the young men and women who have been fortunate enough to get on board can consider themselves lucky.” Today’s awards and prizes will be given to the most outstanding Kiddy Cricket participants in T&T.

Expected to be in attendance will be organisers of the Kiddy Cricket Programme, officials from Scotiabank, and members of the Red Force national team’s management along with several players.

Top players from the eight school districts in this year’s Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Programme took part in the camp. The camp is an annual component of the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket Programme and seeks to administer advanced technical training in the sport of cricket, over a five-day period.

In addition to furthering their talents in the basics of the sport, including batting, fielding, bowling and catching, the up and coming cricketers also participated in coach-led discussions on other skills, such as sportsmanship, teamwork and discipline.

Cindy Mohammed manager of Public and Corporate Affairs, sponsorship and Philanthropy said, “Scotiabank remains proud to be the exclusive sponsor of the Kiddy Cricket programme as it represents not only the Bank’s commitment to the sport of cricket, but also the development of the youth of the country. The Bank is pleased to be associated with a feeder programme such as this in which children not only acquire an interest and passion for playing cricket, they also develop interpersonal skills, self-confidence, and self-discipline qualities that benefit them for a lifetime.”
