Trinidad Express / MARABELLA A MAN who pulled a firearm and threatened another man during an altercation outside a church in Marabella yesterday was shot by a soldier. The assailant, a 20-year-old man of Marabella, was shot in his head. Residents said that at around 10.30 a.m., there was an altercation outside Calvary Temple, at Teresa Street, and two explosions rang out. “I thought they were firecrackers, then I looked out and saw a man on the ground in front the church. He was bleeding and a gun was next to him,” said a resident. The Express was told that the alleged assailant was placed in a vehicle and taken to San Fernando General Hospital. Officers of Marabella Police Station responded. A senior police officer told the Express that the alleged assailant was having an altercation with another man outside the church when he (the assailant) pulled out a firearm. The officer said the alleged assailant pointed the firearm in the direction of the soldier and began to make threats when the soldier shot at him. The soldier was questioned by police officers yesterday. Ag Sgt Harrigin of Marabella Police Station responded.
