Trinidad Express / Barbados Nation   IT WAS A DAY for good Samaritans. As Barbados was drenched on the eve of its 50th birthday, Bajans came to the fore, helping their brothers and sisters from being overpowered by mother nature. While flood waters bore down on pedestrians and motorists alike from Holetown, St James to Bridgetown, St Michael, heroes emerged. In the Belle, St Michael, Jamaican shop owner Glen Solomon became the instant hero for a mother and her three kids, as he and a friend used their muscle and truck to save a family from raging waters. The woman and her children had been stuck in the vehicle after powerful water lifted their car away from the road, and pushed it dangerously close to a ridge with a 15-foot drop. “There is protection there at the edge of the road, but I wasn’t sure how long it would hold. That’s why we acted so quickly,” Solomon told the Midweek Nation a couple hours after the harrowing ordeal.
