Jamaica Gleaner / The legal battle over the tabling of a report by the Office of the Contractor General on the construction of a building by Western Hanover MP Ian Hayles is to continue tomorrow in the Supreme Court.
Hayles is seeking to block the publication of the contractor general’s report into allegations of conflicts of interest, irregularities and/or impropriety in relation to the construction of buildings without the approval of the Hanover Municipal Corporation.
The MP claims the publication of the report will abridge his constitutional rights, maintaining that his intention is not to prevent the public from seeing the report.
But writing in today’s Sunday Gleaner, former Prime Minister Bruce Golding says Hayle’s challenge raises serious questions and that the case should be watched carefully.
He says Hayle’s challenge may be an attempt to have the court interfere in the proceedings of parliament.
