Trinidad Express / DEFENDING champions University of Trinidad and Tobago lost their Premiership Division Knockout title to arch-rivals Police on Monday evening, when play continued in the Courts All Sectors Netball League at Tacarigua. The final was a near-repeat of last year’s title game, save that this time it was Police who came out on top, 29-24. Playing in the semi-finals earlier in the evening at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, UTT defeated UWI 23-15 while Police overcame Fire Services 31-27. In the final, Police led 16-14 at the end of the opening 20-minute half and went on win by a five-goal margin. National team goal-shoot Joelisa Cooper led the policewomen, converting 17 of 19 attempts against her former teammates while Tahira Hollingsworth supported with 12 from 23. Former Defence Force goal-shoot Anastasia Wilson carried UTT’s attack, sinking 18 of her 29 attempts while Kernesha Greenidge scored six from seven. Earlier, in Retro Division league play, Bermudez battled back from a seven-point half-time deficit (10-17) to draw 26-all with Carib Senators. Senators’ Beverly Hernandez led all scoring with 20 goals from 25 attempts while Beverly Rodgers netted 17 from 24 for Bermudez. In the other “Retro” matchup, Debra Alie sank 30 of 40 tries to lead TSTT to a 35-28 win over Harlem, for whom Denise Rose scored 22 from 37 tries.
