RJR News / Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls might not have Barbados to contend with at the August 20-26 Caribbean Netball Championship in St Lucia. According to Nisha Craigwell, the president of Barbados Netball, the association is struggling to source the funds needed for the trip.
Barbados had beaten Jamaica earlier this year to draw a three match series 1-1, a result which helped them qualify for next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.
But a shortage of funding means they could miss the Caribbean event which returns to the calendar following ten years of being dormant. Currently, Barbados is the second highest ranked Caribbean team at number 11 with Trinidad and Tobago 13th. The Jamaicans who are ranked 4th in the world, lead the region.
