Trinidad Express / Days after the Government delivered a budget meant to save money and raise revenue, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan turned the sod today to begin a $178 million road rehabilitation project in Moruga.

Sinanan said the roadworks would be spread among local contractors and create employment for residents of Moruga and environs.

The sod turning ceremony was held at the constituency office of the Member of Parliament for Moruga/Tableland Dr Lovell Francis at Indian Walk. The function was attended by Francis, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Kazim Hosein and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Denis Moses.

Sinanan said 30 packages have been tendered for the three-phase project. The main contractor, he said, was Carib Asphalt Pavers Limited.

The first phase, estimated at $41 million, is expected to begin on Monday.
