Trinidad Express / THE MAN who admitted he kidnapped his neighbour ten years ago was yesterday ordered to pay her $6,000 in compensation.

Justice Maria Wilson also fined Michael Murray and warned him to never take the law into his own hands again to solve domestic disputes.

It was last month, as the trial was close to an end, that Murray changed his plea to guilty before the San Fernando Third Criminal Court.

He was charged with kidnapping Lisa Straker on June 25 2007.

The victim gave evidence that she was walking along Coora Road, Siparia when a Nissan B14 motorcar pulled alongside her, the door opened and she was slapped and dragged her into the vehicle. The light came on inside the car and the driver turned around. Straker recognized him as her neighbour.

While she was being driven around she was made to apologize to Murray’s common law husband. Straker did and was released.

She was told that if she spoke of the incident she and her entire family will be killed. She was released 90 minutes later.
