RJR News / Jamaica’s ‘darling of the pool ‘ Alia Atkinson continued her winning streak on Wednesday in Doha, Qatar on the second leg of Cluster 2 in the FINA Short Course World Cup Series. Atkinson landed the 100m breaststroke in 1 minute, 04.21 seconds over Rikke Pedersen of Denmark in 1:05.55 and Lena Kreundl of Australia 1:08.07.
This is her 4th consecutive gold medal in the 100 meters breaststroke for 2017, having already won the event in Berlin, Eindhoven and Hong Kong. The 28 year old Jamaican is the fastest and most consistent breaststroker in the history of the Short Course World Cup. She currently holds the world record of 1:02.36 seconds. Beijing, Tokyo and Singapore will host the final three legs of the series.
