Trinidad Express / A MAN who escaped from Carrera prison two years ago was shot dead by police yesterday.
Leroy Mohammed, also known as “Redo” was killed in a shoot out with officers in Chaguanas.
Officers of the Chaguanas CID received information and went to a squatting settlement in Cashew Gardens where they confronted Mohammed.
Mohammed shot at police officers and they returned fire, police said.
He was struck several times and taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he was pronounced dead.
Mohammed had been imprisoned for 12 years for an offence of robbery with aggravation.
He and fellow prisoner Steve McGilvary escaped from prison on (Independence Day) August 31, 2015.
When he escaped, an advisory was issued to the public that Mohammed “was considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if spotted”.
