About the champ
Anastasha is 11 years old. She started spelling when she was in grade three. Her teacher gave the word T-S-U-N-A-M-I to the class however, every student except Anastasha spelt it incorrectly. She breezed through the word and was awarded $200 and a recommendation to her current coach.
Studying for her parish finals was not without incident as she missed a week and a half of classes to go over the words. During the summer, however, she went to the library for classes and practice with her three other ‘Bees’. Friday is the day they would set aside for spell-downs.
The 11-year-old loves to read, and her favourite books are the Nancy Drew series. She wanted to join the TVJ’s Junior School Challenge Quiz this year, but her school didn’t get past the first round.
