Trinidad Express / I want to believe that from time immemorial adolescents have not been given due diligence towards thoughts and investigations into their behaviours, considering the myriad of challenges they are faced with during this period of their life. Having a PhD and having done extensive research on adolescence, I feel qualified enough to pronounce on this phase of development called adolescence. Adolescence can be described as a critical period characterised by changes in the psychological, physical and social status quo with upheavals and demanding emotional adjustment between the age of 11 to 17 years.
Can all these changes be responsible for the unbecoming and sometimes unwarranted behaviours exhibited by our nation’s youths? Even though we may say yes it can be debatable. What we can surely say is that these changes are challenging to adolescents.
