The trinidad Guardian / With three games to go Naparima College may fancy their chances of copping the prestigious League title in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) which resumes today with the southerners facing a difficult task away to Queen’s Royal College from 3.40pm.

The Angus Eve-coached school is on top the standing with 29 points but cannot afford to blunder with St Anthony’s College closely behind on 27 points and third Presentation College with five more games in hand, after multiple rain interruptions enabled them to play just 10. Eve said he expects the Royalians to be coming hard this afternoon as they have quickly built up the reputation as the team to beat in the tournament over the years.

QRC on the other hand will be fighting for survival in virtually their last match of the league, needing a victory to ensure they are clear of relegation. With 14 points, the Royalians are more concerned with the results of other rescheduled matches.

Grosvenor said his players are now beginning to believe in themselves. “After seven losses the team got its confidence back with the return of first-choice goalkeeper Jacques Poon-Lewis who suffered a broken toe at the beginning of the season. He has been doing quite well between the uprights now and the players have responded positively by scoring goals and improving their play, which showed in our last two matches” Grosvenor said. He added, “We are in a fairly comfortable position now, but Naps are the ones under pressure as they face being overtaken by St Anthony’s or Presentation if they drop any points. What is even more important is that the players want to be sure of playing in the Premier Division next year and they are aware of what they need to do this afternoon,” Grosvenor added.

The St Anthony’s ‘Tigers’ will be at home to Presentation College in what promises to be a mouth-watering contest at West moorings, while under-scrutiny Shiva Boys Hindu College will be at home to Signal Hill Secondary in Penal. All matches begin at 3.40 pm.
