Jamaica Gleaner / October is on track to record the lowest number of road fatalities over a one month period so far this year.

Since the start of the month the Road Safety Unit in the Transport Ministry says six¬†persons have died on the nation’s roadways.

Nineteen persons died in motor vehicle crashes in August, making it the month with the lowest number of road deaths so far this year.

There were 40 road deaths in July, making it the highest for any 30-day period so far this year.

A total of 262 persons have died in 242 fatal crashes since January 1.

The Road Safety Unit says road fatalities are down 16 per cent from 311 over the corresponding period last year while fatal crashes are down seven per cent from 259 over the similar period last year.
