Trinidad Express / Khemchan Roopnarine and his wife, Patricia Harripersad, were childhood sweethearts who fought the odds to be together.
The couple built a life together and loved their two sons unconditionally, relatives said.
Now their boys – Brandon, nine and Darion, five – are orphaned.
Roopnarine, 38, and Harripersad, 36, were struck by a vehicle as they walked home after spending the evening at a relative’s house on Sunday.
Their sons were walking ahead of them.
The couple never went out without their sons and relatives have promised to care for them and raise them the way their parents would have wanted.
The Express was told that the boys have been asking to see their parents.
Distraught relatives said the couple had big dreams for their children.
Autopsies found that the couple died from trauma they suffered when the car struck them.
Funeral arrangements were still being finalised on Tuesday.
