Trinidad Express / POLICE say they were able to captured a thief within five minutes of the crime at the Gulf City Shopping Mall in La Romaine on Thursday.

The 29-year-old victim was seated in her vehicle around 12:55pm when a man grabbed two handbags out of her vehicle. The bags contained $40,000 in cash.

Constables Ameer Ali and Sandeep Maharaj, of the San Fernando CID, responded within minutes.

The victim pointed out one of the suspects who was seen running towards a grey Hyundai Elantra parked outside the mall and occupied by the second male suspect. The suspect threw the two handbags into the car, before running off. 

The driver sped off but intercepted by the officers a short distance away along Gulf View Link Road.  

An 18-year-old driver, of Gasparillo, was arrested and the two handbags recovered.
