Trinidad Express / As of Monday, commuters travelling the St.Croix to Barrackpore route will pay $1 more.
President of the St.Croix/Barrackpore Taxi Drivers Association Deo Persad said that increase with its taxi fare was the result of the increase in the price of fuel, tyres and car parts.
Persad said: “This increase is because of all the increases we now have to face. Rood conditions are bad, parts price went up, mechanic fees went up, gas and the price of tyres went up. It is only poor people buying foreign used tyres and it is a burden on us too. We have no other choice but to increase our rates.”
At this year’s budget announcement, Finance Minister Colm Imbert said the subsidy reduction of super fuel has gone from $3.58 to $3.97 per litre and the cost of diesel went from $2.30 to $3.41 per litre, with immediate effect.
