Trinidad Express / The 27-year-old man, who allegedly raped a woman he met a social media dating site, is expected to appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning at the apartment where the alleged sexual assault occurred, police said.

He was placed on identification parades, and positively pointed out by the victim.

Since then he has been questioned, but has repeatedly denied the allegations.

Express was told that investigators were given instructions to charge the suspect on Friday  afternoon.

According to police reports at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a 22-year-old Morvant woman made an appointment to meet a man on a chat and dating website.

Police said she had frequent ‘in-box” conversations with the suspect over several weeks.

The victim told police she met him with the intention of selling him tickets for a boat cruise.

The suspect allegedly took her to an apartment in Chaguanas where he allegedly committed the assault.

The woman later went to the Morvant police station where she reported that she had been raped.

Officers of the Chaguanas CID were informed and WPC Joseph arrested the suspect.

Police continue to appeal to the public to avoid meeting and setting up dates with “friends” made on social media.
