Trinidad Express / Anastasia Salickram was born into a household of entertainers. The 2017 Mastana Bahar winner is no stranger to performing. She has followed in the footsteps of her father, who won Mastana Bahar in 1991 and her uncle, renowned dancer and founder of the Shiv Shakti Dance Group, Michael Salickram, who also won the competition in 1992, and who is also credited for creating Anastasia’s winning dance.

Salickram, 18, a Business Management degree student at SBCS, earned the attention of judges when she performed an intricate combination of two dance pieces, based on the 2015 Indian Hindi historical romance film Bajirao Mastani, to win the competition. Her success, she said, is a huge accomplishment. She aims to continue to explore the arts on various levels.
