Trinidad Express / Wilfred Elrington, foreign affairs minister of Belize, says he would not encourage anyone to follow his country in replacing the Privy Council with the Caribbean Court of Justice as final court of appeal.

Elrington was attorney general in 2009, when his government introduced a constitutional amendment to do just that.

Along with his prime minister Dean Barrow and a good few others, he is furious over a CCJ ruling delivered on Wednesday last week which ordered the Belize government to pay the equivalent of US$45 million to Belize Bank, a commercial bank.

In a small economy like Belize, US$45 million is big money.
