Jamaica Gleaner / The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) is reporting that it secured approximately $8.7 million in compensation on behalf of consumers in the first six months of the current financial year.
This is a major improvement over the $2.9 million secured during the corresponding period of April to September 2016.
The CAC says the top category for which compensation was secured was in the Other Services Category, which includes sectors such as finance, laundry, hair, medical, and education.
The agency points out that over the period it received 774 consumer complaints of which 480 were resolved.
The CAC says most of the complaints fell in the Electrical Equipment Appliances, Other Services and Utilities categories.
Meanwhile, the consumer agency says it received 216 requests for advice from consumers.
