Jamaica Gleaner / The agriculture ministry is set to implement aggressive measures to counter the rapid spread of the Frosty Pod Rot disease in Jamaica’s cocoa plants.

At a press conference yesterday afternoon, Agriculture Minister Karl Samuda said the ministry would reinstitute the Plant Quarantine Frosty Pod Rot of Cocoa Order, 2017.

He said a radical approach is now needed as despite previous attempts to curtail the disease, it has continued to spread.

He said approximately 70 per cent of cocoa producing areas in Clarendon have been affected.
