The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is reporting that it has encountered several challenges in keeping street lights operational due to a series of events involving criminals.
These include the theft of lamps, the destruction of streetlights; electricity theft and the subsequent loss of lights as well as transformers.
The JPS has also found that there are communities in which persons have deliberately knocked out, shot, or otherwise destroyed the lamps.
Audrey Williams, Media and Public Relations Manager at the Jamaica Public Service Company, says this is used to create a cover for illegal activities.
