Jamaica Gleaner / The Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) says it believes Jamaica has deviated from its traditional stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by its decision not to vote on the issue of Israel’s capital.
The PNP says it’s pleased that 128 countries voted in favour of protecting the Holy City.
However, it notes that Jamaica was among 35 countries that abstained from the vote without explanation.
Shadow Minister on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Lisa Hanna says she recognises the significance of Jerusalem in the search for a permanent resolution to the situation in the Middle East.
She says it’s for this reason that she is disappointed at Jamaica’s abstention.
