Jamaica Gleaner / The opposition People’s National Party (PNP) says the purchase of 119 vehicles for the police gives rise to issues of transparency and accountability.

The party is demanding that the national security minister tell the country the full cost of the vehicles, the suppliers from whom they were purchased and whether the government paid above market price.

The party says Jamaicans must also be told if and when the suppliers were registered with the National Contracts Commission.

Meanwhile, the PNP is questioning whether the vehicles can be outfitted with sirens and the proper markings before Christmas.
