RJR News / Tragedy struck in the vicinity of Excelsior High School in St. Andrew Monday afternoon when a truck hit a 78 year old traffic warden who was assisting children to cross Mountain View Avenue in the vicinity of the school’s main entrance. He later died.
The mishap occurred about 2 o’clock.
Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Highway and Traffic Division, told RJR News that the driver of the truck is in custody and will be charged for dangerous driving, and possibly manslaughter.
The truck was traveling in a southerly direction when, according to the driver, he lost control due to a brake failure, and this resulted in the 78 year old traffic warden being struck.
SSP Allen is urging motorists to be extremely careful when driving on wet roads, especially with the persistent rainfall.
He recalled that a policeman at a crash site in St. Elizabeth was recently knocked down by a passing vehicle when the driving of that vehicle lost control on the wet surface.
