Trinidad Express / ALMOST a month after a couple was knocked down and killed as they walked home in Penal police are yet to determine who was driving the speeding vehicle.
Detectives have questioned both the owner of the Nissan Tiida – 40 year old teacher – and her boyfriend, a past criminal offender.
Police said the man is suspected to have been driving the car that killed Khemchan Roopnarine and his wife, Patricia Harripersad on the night of November 5.
Their two young sons were close by but were unharmed.
The woman had told police that a male friend had borrowed the vehicle that day. He returned the damaged vehicle without an explanation, she had said.
Police said the man claimed that he was not driving the vehicle that day.
Both of them have people supporting their alibis, police said.
Someone is not telling the truth, say investigators, who are asking for the public help in solving the car.
Officers are relying on closed circuit television footage to ascertain who was the driver, as well as who took the vehicle to a straightener to have repairs done.
