Trinidad Express / THERE has been an outpouring of support for the man critically injured in a crash in which his wife died, and their baby survived.

People following the tragedy in Barrackpore on Monday, want Shamir Boban to pull through so that he can come home and care for his infant baby girl Karen.

However, relatives of Boban don’t know if he will make it.

His body is broken. Both his legs are broken and ankle fractured. One hand is broken and the elbow disjointed. His hip is also broken is several places.

According to Boban’s brother Suzaneo Boban, the doctors have to perform more surgeries.

He said: “He has to rest in between the surgery, but the doctors say they have to do more. He is still in ICU because of how his injuries are. He can talk but he is very weak.”

Police say the driver, a 19-year-old, who crashed into the couple which killed Boban’s wife Sharmilla Singh is still warded at the hospital.

He suffered a broken jaw and head injuries, said police.

The other male occupant, 19, was treated and discharged.

Police said the vehicle in which the teen was driving was a rental car and enquires were made with the owner of the vehicle.

The police Victim Support team has been in contact with Singh and Boban’s family offering support and counselling, said police.

On Thursday, friends and relatives said their goodbyes to Singh. Her husband had to miss the funeral due to his fragile state.

Baby Karen was discharged from the San Fernando Teaching Hospital on Wednesday evening and is in the care of Boban’s family.

According to eye witnesses and relatives, the teen along with passenger were driving recklessly during the day prior to the accident. The accident occurred after 4 p.m. as the couple were making their way home. The teenager was speeding and collided with Boban before spinning several times, throwing them out of the vehicle.

The investigating officer is Cpl Rampersad who is continuing with enquires.
