RJR News / President of the Aquatic Sports Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) Martin Lyn is hoping a partnership between his association and Independence Park Limited (IPL) can help to position Jamaica as a destination for college winter training. Currently, Jamaica is missing out on the opportunity to afford North American colleges the chance of hosting winter training at the National Aquatic Centre despite having a 15 foot diving board, as the complex is void of a springboard.
“Prior to the Rio Olympics, the South African Embassy had suggested bringing their entire Olympic team here to train. Can you imagine that here in Jamaica? That would have been phenomenal,” said Lyn. The ASAJ has sought help from IPL to have boards installed at the centre but it will cost US $16 million.
However, General Manager of IPL Major Desmond Brown is pledging their support. “We had it in our budget but something-else actually came up. We are going to try and see if we can get funding,” said Major Brown.
