Jamaica Observer / The Patrick Taylor-trained bay gelding, C ommander Two , re-established his bid as one of the leading contenders for the upcoming native-bred three-year-old Classic races with an exhilarating performance when winning a Restricted Allowance – non-winners of two event at Caymanas Park yesterday. After finishing in fourth position in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes over a mile last Boxing Day, many wrote off the chances of Commander Two when he faltered in deep stretch, having led most of the way — a possible sign that he could not get a distance of ground.
The Forest Danger – Hurricane Michelle offspring turned up yesterday a completely different animal and made all the running to win the seven-and-a-half furlong (1,500m) event by four comfortable lengths. Further proof of his progress came when the final time of 1:32.3 was posted.
With Javaniel Patterson retaining the ride, Commander Two flew out of the number three post and assumed a slim lead over Council Of Trent and Brandy . As the field motored towards the half -mile (800m), Commander Two slipped away from rivals.
Although drifting out a bit in the straight, Commander Two was too far out in front to be pegged back and won easily over Fayrouz and Lici’s Pepsi in that order.
