RJR News / Rohan Masters, a former member of the Joel Andem Giddeon Warrior gang was shot dead by gunmen Friday morning in Swallowfield, St. Andrew. Masters, who was described by the Police High Command as a contract killer, was shot by men travelling in a burgundy motor car. Masters, a gang leader in Fletcher’s Land, West Kingston, was walking after reporting on condition of bail, when he was attacked and shot. Masters was convicted in 2003 of the murder of gas station operator Sylvia Edwards and sentenced to life imprisonment.’ Mrs. Edwards was kidnapped and killed in July 2000 by members of the Joel Andem gang. The Appeal Court later quashed Masters’s conviction and ordered a retrial. He was freed at the retrial and was awaiting trial for a 2009 drive-by shooting in Portmore, St. Catherine. Three men were shot, one fatally, when Masters and one of his cronies reportedly opened gunfire on persons at the Naggo Head bus depot. Taxi operator Ian Morrison was killed in the shooting.
