RJR News / Commander Two with apprentice Javaniel Patterson aboard, created a mild upset in upstaging his more fancied rivals to claim victory in the second classic of the season, the 2000 Guineas over a mile for a purse of $3.5 million at Caymanas Park on Sunday.

Conditioned by Patrick Taylor, Commander Two who went off at 8-1, made it a gate to wire affair to hold off the fast-finishing Western Legend with Robert Halledeen by just a neck. Without Exception and the 8-5 favourite, Marquesas completed the frame. Commander Two came home in 1:40.0. The second leg of the Triple Crown series, the Jamaica Derby, will be run on June 30.
