Jamaica Gleaner / Voters in the Homestead Division in St Catherine South Central are to go to the polls on May 18 to elect a new councillor .
The seat became vacant following the death of Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Owen Palmer who died in a traffic crash last month.
Mark McLean of the JLP will be going up against Janet Grayson of the People’s National Party (PNP).
The date for the by-election was announced by the Chairman of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation Mayor Norman Scott at a press conference in Spanish Town today.
Nomination Day will be on May 1.
The Homestead Division has been a JLP stronghold and has not been won by the PNP since 1981.
