The Trinidad Guardian / The T&T Volleyball Federation avoided its national teams being withdrawn from no fewer than six international competitions this year after meeting the deadline issued by NORCECA President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz of Thursday last to submit much needed teams and players information as required.
Earlier this week the T&TVF led by attorney-at-law Nicole Selvon was caught in a mad scramble to have the necessary documentations in place for the national teams, junior and senior to compete in upcoming international competitions or face being withdrawn.
In an email communicated to the T&TVF President Nicole Selvon from former President Daymian Stewart noted that local federation, voted the best in the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) last year, needed to complete the necessary paperwork with regards to national teams full registrations (confirmation of passports, 0-2 forms of players registration, photos, visas, room listing and the itinerary for the trip, that is telling the tickets), for participation at upcoming international events.
Contacted yesterday, senior women’s team manager Susan Pierre confirmed that the necessary paper work and forms for the women’s team participations in the events listed were all submitted earlier this week ahead of the deadline date of April 19.
Pierre, a school teacher added: “I have been very busy over the past couple of days making sure all was in place for the senior women’s team to be able to compete at the tournaments we have qualified too. We have also submitted our request for the Canadian Visas for players and staff as well while we don’t need Visas for the other tournaments we will be taking part in under the Norcea umbrella.
She added: “All that is left now is for us to pay for tickets and we will be doing so once we meet with the Sport Company of T&T (Sportt) officials to sort it out.”
There was some speculation that the players would have to foot the bill for their respective Visas, but according to a source who is close to the developments and who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity, “this is not the case and will be taken care off by Sportt as well.”
With regards to the junior and senior men’s team, coach Sean Morrison confirmed that he submitted the required information to the T&TVF twice and expected all to be sorted out for the national teams to take their place at the said competitions.
He said, “We’ve done all our paper work and our focus now is on getting as prepared as we can be for the competitions.”
The T&TVF is down to four current members after previous elected members Eva Nunez (treasurer), Lorraine David (assistant treasurer), Deon Hutchinson (1st Vice President), Crystal Williams-Joefield (assistant secretary), Leroy Serapio (public relations officer), board members Saleem Ali and Shushanna Marsall and Nolan Daniel, who was the Tobago representative all resigned their positions.
In addition, Lyndon Simmons, who replaced Serapio also resigned his position and a Special General Meeting is expected to be held in early May to determine the way forward for the under-fire body.
