Jamaica Observer / WELL-RECEIVED performances brought the house down at the Sandals and Beaches Resorts Festival of Arts Ocho Rios region talent and model competition hosted at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in St Ann last Thursday. Employees from Sandals Ochi, Sandals Royal Plantation, and Beaches Ocho Rios enthralled the massive audience — comprising international guests and local staffers — with their talents of singing, dancing, modelling, and poetry.
Garett Bailey and Suzanne Ingram, entertainment division managers at Sandals Ochi and Beaches Ocho Rios, respectively, were pleased with the standard of the performances and are expecting the region to do well in the National Finals at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort on Saturday.
“We have amazing talents in Ocho Rios. It’s just a matter of fine-tuning for the national and international finals,” Bailey told the Jamaica Observer .
The occasion saw Jessica Clarke from Beaches Ocho Rios’s Entertainment Department delivering the performance of the evening and copping the Best Female Singer Award from a strong field which included Sandals Ochi’s Shanet Messam. Both singers were in scintillating form, but Clarke’s vocal ability and control along with her powerful voice had the members of the audience screaming for more.
Leon Simpson from Sandals Ochi’s Entertainment Department, who won the Best Spoken Word category was another of the outstanding performers.
Best Male Singer was Akeen Fennell from Sandals Ochi’s Butler Department, who delivered a slick and powerful set. Chad Roache, also from Sandals Ochi, was the Best Male Model. He had the females swooning. Ashlie Barrett, management trainee at Sandals Ochi, was Roache’s female equivalent.
Sandals Ochi swept the dance categories. Melvin Gray took the Solo award, while Gerine Thompson and Tamara Graham secured the Group award with their artistic and intricate movements.
Wilton Walters from Beaches Ocho Rios won the DJ Clash title in fine style.
