Jamaica Observer / GOSPEL singer Chevelle Franklyn is part of the line-up for Gosplash scheduled for the Liguanea Golf Academy in New Kingston, St Andrew, on August 1. Franklyn, who walked away from a career in secular music, is looking forward to performing at Gosplash. It will be her second time on the show.
“They can expect a great time in the presence of the Lord. Lives will be impacted and rejuvenated,” said Franklyn. “I’m super excited about Gosplash and I cannot wait to be there.”
American gospel sensation CeCe Winans is Gosplash’s headliner. Jermaine Edwards and Glacia Robinson are also on the bill.
Two decades ago, Franklyn’s Dancehall Queen with Beenie Man and Mr Lover Man with Shabba Ranks exploded onto the world scene and catapulted her to the who’s who in the music industry.
But Franklyn said she doesn’t miss that lifestyle.
“As a secular act, I was just singing what persons wanted to hear, but now I sing only for God. I now have a better purpose, which aims at pleasing God,” she told the Jamaica Observer in a previous interview.
In 2016, Franklyn released the album Set Time, which entered the Billboard Reggae Album chart at number 12.
“I’m actually in the studio cooking up something new, right now. So many things have been happening extensive touring in England and America and I’m also preparing to go back to Europe,” said Franklyn.
Her other tracks include No Foreign God, Kill My Flesh, and Magnify His Name .
Gosplash is promoted by Action Entertainment. It has been held annually since 2013.
