Jamaica Observer / People’s National Party (PNP) spokesman on energy Phillip Paulwell last night called on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to immediately fire managing director of National Energy Solutions Limited (NESOL) Carolyn Warren. Paulwell, in an effort to justify his call, made damaging allegations against Warren.
He also accused former Energy Minister Dr Andrew Wheatley of a lack of accountability in the performance of his duties, and said that was reason enough for him to be dismissed from the Cabinet by the prime minister “without further delay”.
The Opposition has been calling on Holness to sack Wheatly after allegations of mismanagement, financial misconduct, and breach of procurement guidelines were reported at the State oil refinery, Petrojam.
Last week, Holness announced that the energy portfolio had been transferred from Wheatly’s ministry to the Office of the Prime Minister, leaving Wheatley with responsibility for science and technology.
On Tuesday this week, Holness told the House of Representatives that Petrojam General Manager Floyd Grindley had resigned. He also announced a range of new procedures aimed at correcting management flaws at the refinery.
