Aguilliera: Focus the order of the day

The trinidad Guardian / West Indies women’s wicketkeeper Merissa Aguilliera responding to the removal of the team’s management says that the focus should be on the field with the Sri Lankan tour so close at hand.

Aguilliera speaking to Guardian Media Sports made the the comments when asked for her thoughts on the axing of former windies women’s head coach Vasbert Drakes.

In a release yesterday, CWI said it would be “setting up a new management support structure for the team” ahead of Sri Lanka Women’s tour of the Caribbean starting October 4.

Recent media reports said Drakes, along with Ezra Moseley and Stuart Williams and operations manager Ann Browne-John had all been removed from their positions.

Experienced Hendy Springer has been named as head coach and former West Indies head coach, Gus Logie, as his assistant, in an interim management team.

Physiotherapist Oba Gulston has been replaced by Ariane Mangar while fitness coordinator Hector Martinez-Charles has been replaced by Shayne Cooper. Gary Belle will take over from Trent Sargeant as data analyst.

Aguilliera said: “It’s sad to have lost all of them. The entire staff did well from the manager go straight back. .

“We are a bit saddened but CWI has made their decision and it is about us going forward. The CWI probably sees this as a step going forward. At the end of the it is all about West Indies cricket growing.

“The CWI will have a valid reason and I am not going against it.

“We don’t know what angle they are seeing it from. We have Sri Lanka coming up and we don’t want to focus on the wrong things.

“We need to just focus on the playing field and let the board do their job.”
