Ali routs Guyana*

Trinidad Express / Trinidad and Tobago leg-spinner Sameer Ali continued to impress in the Regional Under-17 Championship, grabbing six wickets for nine runs from 6.3 overs to set up his team’s easy eight-wicket win over Guyana in their third round match at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, yesterday. After two early strikes by T&T pacers Jayden Seales (one for 13) and Ronaldo Forester (one for 11), Sameer Ali and Nicholas Ali (two for five) combined to quickly wrap up the Guyana innings, dismissing the visitors for 38. T&T replied with 39 for two to seal their third straight win in the competition. The Vishnu Boys Hindu College student, Sameer Ali, who now has 11 wickets in the tournament, said he didn’t try to do too much with the ball, preferring to keep things simple. “We expected a tough match because we knew they play spin well. I knew it would have been tough to get wickets against them but I just took my time and tried to basically pitch one line and length and make it difficult for them to get runs off me and today it worked for me,” said Ali.
