Blake will not be out for long

Jamaica Gleaner / RABAT, Morocco:

A groin injury sustained by Yohan Blake during a training session at the Rabat National Stadium on Friday will not keep him out for long.

Blake pulled out of today’s Diamond League meet yesterday but he says the move was precautionary and he will be able to participate in next month’s IAAF World Championships in London.

At a press briefing yesterday, the 2011 World 100m champion said: “I felt tightness in the groin area during the training session and the situation is not serious. After doing a few run throughs, I felt some discomfort in my groin and with the World Championships a few weeks away, I decided not to take any risks by competing at the meet. I can run, but I do not want to risk it,” he said.

Blake, who will fly out to Germany this morning to see a doctor, added that he was sorry to disappoint his fans.

CONFIDENT “I am confident that I will be ready (for World Champs) and I will be going to Germany to see my doctor for some assessment on the groin,” he said.

Today’s race would have been Blake’s last before the World Championships, but he said this would have little effect on his preparations.

I will just have to replicate my race plans in training. I have been running well all season and I definitely will be back in training on Tuesday,” he said.
