Bolt’s Statue Unveiled

RJR News / 8-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt has expressed satisfaction with the likeness of the statue unveiled by the Prime Minister Andrew Holness-led Governmet in Statue Park infront the National Stadium on Sunday night. Bolt, the 100m and 200m world record holder was joined by the top brass of Jamaica’s sports fraternity including Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) president Christopher Samuda, Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) president Dr Warren Blake, fellow athletes, the president of NACAC Victor Lopez and the political directorate as well as sculpture Basil Watson as the statue was unveiled just after 7:30 pm. He says the statue brings honour to all his accomplishments. “The losses, the injuries, everything that I went through; right now it makes it all worth it so it’s a wonderful feeling to look back and see what your career has brought you. I’m very happy and proud of myself; it’s a good time and I’m in a good place,” said Bolt. Bolt’s statue joins those of Arthur Wint, Herb McKenley, Donald Quarrie and Merlene Ottey.

The unveiling of the statue was followed by a celebratory concent for the athletes and management staff, who represented Jamaica at this summer’s London World Championships.
