Building T&T’s CNG infrastructure*

Trinidad Express / Is compressed natural gas (CNG), as an alternative transportation fuel in place of gasolene, finally catching on in Trinidad and Tobago, as I predicted in this column two years ago? It could be but it will be slow going. The Southern Sales and Services company, for one, seems to think there is a demand for such vehicles. It has just introduced a 100 per cent CNG truck to the local market. Speaking at the handover of the vehicle last year, Southern Sales managing director Imtiaz Ahamad described the decision to bring a CNG truck to Trinidad and Tobago as a “pioneering” one. The vehicle was manufactured in Japan by Isuzu Motors and Mr Ahamad regards it as an “important milestone” for the transportation industry.
