Cain 6th in Para Worlds long jump*

Trinidad Express / NYOSHIA CAIN opened her 2017 World Para Athletics Championship campaign with a sixth-place finish in the women’s long jump T44 event, in London, England, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete disturbed the sand at 3.99 metres. Great Britain’s Stef Reid grabbed gold with a 5.40m leap. Dutchwoman Marlene van Gansewinkel jumped 5.29m to pick up silver, with bronze going to Japan’s Maya Nakanishi (5.00m). Akeem Stewart will be in action today in the men’s discus throw F44. The T&T thrower bagged bronze in the event at the 2015 Para Worlds in Qatar. On that occasion, Stewart produced a 59.13 metres effort to finish behind Americans Jeremy Campbell (61.21m) and David Blair (60.46m).
