Campers receive gifts at Bradley’s Skills Academy

News day / Bradley, a shooting guard with the Boston Celtics in the NBA, completed a three-day camp along with his team of coaches. All the participants received certificates of participation at the closing, while some of the top performers got socks, basketballs and official Avery Bradley Celtics jerseys. The closing ceremony also included an interactive segment, where campers got the opportunity to ask Bradley questions about the NBA and his career.

One message Bradley had for the youngsters was the importance of hard work and respect. Bradley said he trains for hours everyday and he encouraged the participants to work at their game.

Bradley said, “I just want you all to continue to keep working.

Make sure you put in the hard (work) and the dedication. Make sure you respect your teacher, your parents, your classmates. We want to teach you guys how to be better people as well, not just basketball players. I hope you enjoyed this experience. We really enjoyed our time with you guys. We appreciate you guys and we hope to see you guys in the future.” The youngsters also surrounded Bradley after the closing to get autographs from the Celtics player, who also held a camp in Grenada recently.

Bradley also presented a Celtics basketball jersey to Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Darryl Smith.

Smith encouraged the participants to remember what they learned at the camp. He said, “Make sure and keep what you learned to heart. All the questions you all asked were pertinent questions.

Remember the drills, the life lessons you would have learned.

The coaches and the parents that were here, make you sure that you utilise what you learned.” Smith thanked everyone who made the camp possible, and said hopefully another similar camp like this can happen in the future to keep the sport of basketball thriving in this country.
