Cancer survivors in candle light vigil

News day / The annual event, co-hosted by Republic Bank Limited (RBL) and the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society (TTCS), capped off a month of activities designed to raise cancer awareness within the national community. This included the stationing of Mobile Clinics at selected RBL branches across TT during the month of October, where persons were members of the public were provided with free cancer screening services.

Friday evening’s vigil began with a walk around the park, followed by musical performances, including a mini gospel concert by a choir.

Addressing the gathering, which included several children, RBL’s Group Corporate Communications Manager, Tisha Lee, expressed thanks to everyone who helped spread this year’s message about cancer – Share Knowledge, Spread Hope, Save Lives.

Lee said this message “enjoyed some success, particularly with our Edufest school programme and our Walk for Life remembrance walks.” Edufest is aimed at educating both primary and secondary school students about cancer and the preventative measures that can be taken.

The 2016 edition of Edufest took place in Tobago on October 5 and 6 at Gulf City Mall in Lowlands while the Trinidad edition was held at the St John’s Ambulance Hall, Fitzblackman Drive, Woodbrook on October 11 and 12.

While these activities were successful, RBL and TTCS “are always looking ahead because we know that we still have miles to go before we reach the eventual goal where every man, woman and child in our beautiful country is both an advocate and stalwart for cancer awareness,” Lee declared.
