Cattle thief jailed*

Trinidad Express / san fernando   A GARDENER who stole an 800-pound cattle and tied it in his backyard, was yesterday sentenced to two years hard labour for the theft. Shiva Narine, 35, was also sentenced to time in prison for stealing a water pump, having cocaine in his possession and resisting arrest. He will spend a total of four years and three months in jail. Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan told San Fernando Senior Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine that at 7.15 p.m. on August 17, 2016, the owner last saw the black-and-white $8,500 cattle in his pasture along the M2 Ring Road in Debe. He returned the next morning to discover the animal missing. The piece of rope used to tie the cattle to a tree was left behind. A report was made to PC Rampersad whose investigations led to Diamond Village, San Fernando, where the cattle was spotted in an open piece of land behind Narine’s house. The cattle was later positively identified by the owner. Become a subscriber to the Trinidad Express Newspapers for access to all our articles via our vNEWS. Subscribe to vNews | Log-In to vNews
