Cops in court, charged with misbehavior, perverting public justice

Trinidad Express / ACTING Superintendent Wayne Thongs and Special Reserve Woman Police Constable Dayna Spencer, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in Port of Spain today charged with engaging in a series of acts tending to pervert the course of public justice and misbehavior in public office.

It is alleged that while attached to the Rapid Response Unit, WPC Spencer presented duty slips to Thongs in February 2015 for work she had not done and for which he is alleged to have authorized for payment.

Before their court appearance, Thongs, 55, and Spencer, 40, had both been granted bail by a justice of the peace in the sum of $85,000 and $60,000 each.

They will reappear in court on February 6th, 2017.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, gave instructions to charge the two officers shortly before midnight last Friday.
