Crown Trace back home from Toronto tourney*

Trinidad Express / Crown Trace Football Club returned from this year’s Robbie International Soccer Tournament in Toronto, Canada, without any silverware but extremely pleased with their performance in the tournament. Campaigning in Bracket D in the Under-18 Division, the Enterprise-based club played unbeaten to top their group and advance to the quarter-finals. They could not, however, get past Canada’s Aurora FC 2000 Boys who prevailed 2-1, as Jirel Meloney notched a consolation item for Crown Trace. In round-robin play, Crown Trace defeated Mexico’s Lobos BAUP 2000 by a 2-1 margin with goals from Meloney and Kellon Murrien. They followed it up with a 1-1 draw against Wexford SC of Canada, as Emmanuel Cumberbatch found the back of the net for Crown Trace. And a 3-2 win over Norwest Arsenal, another Canadian team, saw the local outfit advance to the final eight, with Rivaldo Coryat scoring a brace and Tylon Roseman adding another. Despite not running much deeper in the tournament, Technical Director Nicholas Griffith was upbeat upon the team’s return. “Again, we were very pleased to present our members with such great memories and the ability to participate in another international tournament,” he said.
