Early-retirement packages offered to GML workers *

Trinidad Express / Guardian Media Limited (GML) has offered over a dozen employees voluntary early-retirement packages.

GML operates CNC3 Television and several radio stations as well as publishes the Guardian newspaper.

The move has come as the company continues its cost-cutting and restructuring exercise.

GML reported a net loss of $509,000 for the first quarter of 2017.

Labour relations/health and safety officer of the Banking,Insurance and General Workers Union (BIGWU), Wesley Francis, told the Express yesterday that around 14 employees were offered the packages.

Among them are print reporters, senior cameramen in the television division, library supervisors and associate editors,he said.
